👉 Hey everybody! It’s Michael Ricchiuto MPT, EMT-P with Physical Therapy Now. Today we’re going to talk about shoulder mobility and there’s a simple, quick, and easy way to get shoulder mobility using a dowel rod or a broom handle or anything that’s like a stick a hockey stick a lot of the times. I’m going to demonstrate a really good way to get all of your shoulder mobility to warm up.

👉 Okay! So we’re going to take the stick and first we’re going to go through all the motions of shoulder movement.

👉 Now mobility shouldn’t take you 20 minutes to be able to perform something. It should really only take a few minutes.

👉 Make sure you have full motion of  your shoulder and by watching the video you will accomplish this. There are 6 major motions of the (glenohumeral joint) portion of the  shoulder. This is the “ball-in-the-socket” portion of the shoudler. These directions are flexion/extension, abduction/adduction, and internal/external rotation. We will exclude accessory motions such as spin and superior/inferior translation of the glenohumeral joint.

👉 Click on the video and watch how to make sure you are maximizing all of these motions before you begin your exercise activity. A shoulder has to have soft tissue extensibility of the 4 joints that complete the shoulder complex, it must have full osteo and arthrokinematic movement  of these joints and proper blood flow and nervous supply for a shoulder to perform optimum movement and longevity.
